The Brief
In 2004 we set out to find an alternative source of large carrots for the UK off-season. UK carrot production starts to wind-down in April and has usually come to an end by early May. The majority of supply for the UK market is then switched to Italy/Spain/France for new-season carrots. However, this product is usually lacking in size. The wholesale, food-service and processing sectors all generally require a larger product. UK new-crop production begins around mid-June although the finished product also lacks size until around early July. Therefore, there is a strong demand for a good quality, large new-season carrots during the months of May and June.
